Accountability 

I believe that the Board of Education (BOE) and the School District should be completely accountable to the public.  The community has placed a tremendous amount of responsibility in our hands to ensure that all of our students are well-educated and that each child is empowered to succeed.  We have been entrusted with choosing a new superintendent and making sure that all monies are spent wisely.  The BOE must be fully accountable to the public in each of these responsibilities and I am committed to implementing well-reasoned and constructive decisions that will benefit our students.

Continuity

Prior to the stability brought by the late Dr. Jonathan Ponds during his 4-year tenure, Montclair had a revolving series of superintendents.  Our 5-year strategic plan will soon be reviewed, and we are in the early years of our 7-year capital construction project under the bond referendum. As a Board member since May 2021, I bring the insight and valuable experience to continue what Dr. Ponds had envisioned.  Additionally, as a Montclair resident for over 37 years, my wife and I have been and continue to be active participants in all types of school-based programming while our son and daughter, and now our grandchildren and grandnephews attend Montclair Public Schools.  I am confident that my experience and personal dedication is critical to the Montclair BOE to ensure the continuity and drive for excellence that all Montclair students deserve.

Transparency

Montclair’s parents and the Montclair community have always been a source of strength for our schools.  I believe that the BOE must be fully transparent about its decisions, its directions and its policies and must effectively communicate these to our community.  As Chair of the Communications Committee, I will ask the necessary probing questions and work to inform the Montclair Community about the issues that impact our students and schools.
